John Starrett
Starrett has built a number of unconventional instruments, and several versions of the ‘StarrBoard’. The one shown has 24 strings tuned in half steps with piano-style black-key marker-dots. It’s played keyboard style, the player sitting at the tuner end, with a tapping technique. There is also a fret-switching MIDI StarrBoard.

The StarrBoard has 24 strings tuned in half-steps with piano black-key marker dots. It’s played keyboard-style, the player sitting at the tuner end, with tapping technique.

(John Starrett and Harvey Starr seem to be in parallel universes. The Z-Tar is a keyboard built like a guitar, and the StarBoard is a guitar built like a keyboard!)

StarrBoards have been built with up to 52 strings!
