Hello! I’m glad you’re here!
This website, begun in 1996, is a fun public-access educational site … promoting the touch-style method of playing electric bass or guitar by two-handed tapping on the strings.
‘TOUCH-STYLE’ and ‘TWO-HANDED TAPPING’ — WHAT IS THAT?
The word ‘touch-style’ means to play a stringed instrument by simply touching the strings to the frets. With an electric guitar or electric bass you can play music this way, and you can play with both hands at the same time, kind of like playing a piano. The easiest and most powerful way to do this is with a specialty instrument designed with more strings so you can, in effect, play bass and guitar at the same time.
Descriptions of touch-style instruments especially designed for this technique will be found in the Resources section, and articles about playing music, especially with the touch-style technique, are found in the Articles section.
TWO-HANDED TAPPING ON GUITAR, ON BASS, ON MEGATAR, ON CHAPMAN STICK …
The word ‘touch-style’ means playing with this two-handed technique on any kind of instrument, using any kind of technique, and includes all the variant methods of tapping, as have been developed by many musicians, over many years, on many types of musical instruments. You’ll find many of these discussed in the History section.
IT’S FUN. IT’S MUSICAL. IT’S FUN.
I guess what I’m trying to say is … this method of playing music is so fun!
So enjoy yourself, wander around, learn something. If you like sign up for the touchstyle newsletter.
In other words, make yourself at home. I would offer you some coffee, but this is a website on your computer, and the coffee would get your computer wet and that’s not good for a computer.
So you’ll have to get your own coffee. Sorry. That’s just how it is.
But while you’re having your coffee, I believe you will discover that here … you’ll learn a lot about that wonderful new way of playing music … touchstyle!
